Rooted to Bloom · Capital campaign
Together, we are building Iowa's first permanent supportive housing and empowerment campus designed specifically for women rebuilding after incarceration, addiction, and domestic violence: 64 homes with on-site case management in Northeast Des Moines.

Our vision
Rooted to Bloom is a multi-phase campaign that fills a long-missing piece of the housing continuum for women in Central Iowa.
Phase 1 · Secure
$2.6 million
Fully funded
In 2025, we purchased the full campus at 1348 E. Euclid Ave., including The Beacon Village, a second building, and land for future growth. We own the campus outright with no debt. Owning it saves $18,700 a month in rent, which we can now invest directly in our homes and the people we support.

Phase 2 · Expand
$6.6 million
Funding secured & building final budget
We will transform a vacant building on the campus into 32 new permanent supportive apartments, bringing the campus to 64 affordable, accessible homes. We are so grateful to the public and private partners making this possible.
$6,460,000 secured 98%
Phase 3 · Strengthen & Empower
$5.5 million+
Fundraising now
• Our original building: at least $3 million for needed improvements and additions
• Training center: $2 million for hands-on training, classes, offices, and storage, which we hope to add in 2027 or 2028
• Operations: ongoing support for the people and programs that keep the campus strong
$518,000 raised 9%
Phase 4 · Look Ahead
Our long-term vision
We hope to add housing by 2030 where mothers and children can live together.
Built to Last
This campaign is part of our 2025 to 2030 strategic plan. We will begin consulting with other recovery residences at the end of 2026, and we hope to begin licensing our program in 2027. This earned revenue will help sustain our work and bring what we have learned to more communities.
Community voices
“Revitalizing neighborhoods takes more than buildings. It requires a commitment to the people who call those communities home.”
Dr. Rachelle Keck, President, Grand View University
“Safe, affordable housing is the first step toward a stable future, and it opens the door to meaningful employment, personal growth, and lifelong success.”
Judy Downs, Executive Director, Dress for Success Des Moines
In addition to the $3.5M Phase 1 goal, The Beacon has requested $3 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank for safety upgrades: a new roof, siding, reinforced doors, and enhanced security. Campaign figures as published by The Beacon; totals are updated as gifts are secured.
